When you donate a computer, what happens?

Every computer donated to ReliaTech is carefully evaluated for usefulness. If it is too old or tired to be revived, we send it to an environmentally-sensitive recycler that takes it apart and recovers the raw materials for reuse.

Most machines we get can be refurbished, and are put through our 25-step process. Click here to see our 25-step checklist. Here is what that entails:

• The hard disk is wiped clean of all old data, reformatted, and a new operating system (Windows) and applications are installed
• The inside of the case is cleaned
• All the components are tested and defective ones are replaced.
• The memory (RAM) is upgraded to current standards for efficient operation
• The computer is reassembled and tested
• The outside is cleaned
• The system is sold at a low price in our shop or donated to a school, low-income individual, church, or other institution

Each of our refurbished systems, reborn as a Gold Star Certified Renewed Computer, is guaranteed to work perfectly for 6 full months.
